Website Essentials: 5 Crucial Details to Include When Building an eCommerce Website

    AlexanderBy AlexanderDecember 8, 2022Updated:December 31, 2022No Comments3 Mins Read

The world of eCommerce is growing by the day, but that doesn’t mean anyone can step in and make a profit. Success in this competitive space requires everything from using the best eCommerce fulfillment services to attracting customer demand through a killer website. So let’s  explore five crucial details that must go into building your eCommerce site:

    1. Shipping and refunds

Shipping and refunds are two ever-present concerns that customers have about online shopping. If information about both isn’t easy to find, people will lose trust in the site and think twice about making purchases.

For shipping, it’s no secret that people love it when it’s free. However, if that’s unfeasible, then the second best thing is to be upfront about how much shipping will cost and how long it will take. Then, you can write out your refund policies so people will feel more comfortable with their purchases.

    2. Mobile-friendly design

Designing a mobile-friendly site is essential in a world where more people have smartphones than laptops. That generally means making all the images, text, videos, and links easy to read and fast to load. For eCommerce sites, that’s all about making the products easy to search, the details easy to read, and the checkout process easy to navigate.

It can help to look at websites with great mobile-friendly designs so you can expand on what works. Remember that it’s an ongoing process, and testing your site on multiple devices is essential to see if it adapts well.

    3. Multiple payment options

After customers find what they want on your eCommerce site, they move on to payment. Like the products menu, the payment menu should be easy to navigate and have plenty of options. Supporting all payment methods may be a little much, but only allowing one is sure to drive away some customers.

So, focus on the most popular. These range from Visa, Masterpass, and Stripe to PayPal, Amazon Pay, and Google Pay. As your site grows, or if you’re selling specialty items, you may also want to integrate cryptocurrency options.

    4. Safety measures

Unfortunately, data breaches are on the rise. Even more unfortunately, Verizon pins the average cost of a breach at $4.2 million. If you want to avoid getting tangled up in that expensive mistake, you must keep your customer’s information secure and protected.

Three simple ways to do that are to install an SSL (Secure Socket Layer), use multi-factor authentication, and be extra discerning about plug-ins. An SSL ensures any data passing from browsers to servers stays private. Multi-factor authentication makes it more difficult for hackers to steal passwords. Finally, choosing the wrong plug-ins can lead to security risks and data loss. So, stick to the safe ones.

    5. Loading times

With so many eCommerce sites available, keeping customer attention is challenging. Thankfully, one of the easiest ways to maintain customer attention is by having a fast-loading website. To be precise, eCommerce sites that load within zero to two seconds tend to do best.

To ensure your loading times are always excellent, follow some basic steps for optimizing the speed of your site. These steps include compressing image sizes to the point where they give the best visual in the smallest file size. Also, you can use caching to reduce the time it takes for data to travel.

Keep these five details in mind, and you’ll be better equipped to build an eCommerce site that brings in all the right customers.
